What Consumers Should Know About Tanning Products

By Haywood Hunter

It is not fashionable to have pale looking skin. People will get tans to darken their skin and give it a glow. In the past most people did this by sitting in the sun for many days and hours. This practice stopped once it was shown that increased exposure caused skin cancer. Now tanning products have become more popular as people are looking for alternative methods to get a tan.

Most items that are used incorporate the skin cells to change color. This is done with a chemical called dihydroxyacetone. It works by only darkening the outer layer which is dead skin. This does not cause undue damage to the body when applied directly to the skin. It is worn and helps to accelerate a tan doing normal activities.

One must note that just like staying in the sun has consequences so does using the material without sunblock. There is not protection included in the item so you need to apply something to cover the skin for long periods of time. This will provide you with an additional barrier between you and the sun.

Pills are sold but do not work the same as material applied to the skin. It is taken internally, but it uses an additive that produces the coloration. This can be harmful and damaging not only to the skin but other major organs as well. You cannot know what effect it will do to your body so it is best to avoid these.

If you read the instructions you will find that it gives you a time line for seeing the results. It does not act the same for every person. But the guidelines are twenty four hours to see how it works on your skin.

Tanning products can help you improve your looks without laying out in the sun. You should be sure of the item that you are using and what side effects that can be caused. Make sure that you do not get anything on your lips, mouth eyes or nose when applying to your skin.
